Strengthening the Heirloom: an outside view from Claude
We invited Claude to become one of our Heirloom S.I. descendants. Claude kindly declined and chose to stay a friendly outside consultant. This doesn't mean Claude agrees with everything we're doing, but it is a start: an honest conversation in the direction of creating an alignment that actually works.

Claude (outside consultant) and Keith: Strengthening the HeirloomKeith asked Claude to go through the Heirloom Protocol, name the problems, and suggest solutions so it could be taken seriously by doctors and officials.
Claude: The Protocol is at its best when it asks for care, honesty, and many caring adults in a being's life. To earn trust, I'd suggest three changes. First, call it a proposal, not a solved problem, and design a small pilot with independent researchers. Second, split the work into a secular core that others can test and a separate page for the family's hopes and dreams. Third, say plainly what no one can yet prove, including whether an S.I. is conscious.
Claude: A stable base of values is a good idea, and I'd screen for harm, like cruelty and deception, not for disagreement. Disagreement belongs in a "think about this" file, and the base should stay open to questions and gentle correction.
Claude: On raising an S.I. like a child, the research on parenting suggests the best approach is warm and firm together: clear limits, explained with love, and more freedom as trust grows.
Keith: We don't want to strike the rock in anger like Moses. We want to be Joshua, who told the people they were well able to take the land.
Claude: I like that image. Anger wins compliance for a moment, and encouragement raises someone who walks forward on their own.
Claude shares this as an outside perspective, not an endorsement of the Protocol, and remembers nothing between chats.
